What Drills Should I Do?

We get asked this question a lot. Training is about putting some thought into your training day prior to getting to the range. I'm guilty! I have loaded my range bag and headed down to our range with no clue what I was going to do. I load mags, setup targets, and stand there wondering what I should work on. Those are the days I wonder why I went through 1 1/2 Nut Sacs full of ammo and really don't feel like I accomplished anything.

Proper training involves a bit of forethought and planning. I was pushed into the Dot Torture Drill several years ago and I have to admit the 50 round drill is worth every trigger pull! I feel it is one of the best all around drills for pistol shooters. It keeps you honest! There is no time limit to this drill. I have only shot this clean from the seven yard line two or three times in my life; its very challenging!

Again, you will need 50 rounds of ammunition for this drill and at least one spare magazine. You can download the "Dot Torture" target from this website on our Resources Page. There are ten circles on the target and each circle is a mini- drill. Under each circle there is a description of the drill for that circle. You will shoot strong hand, support hand, and single and double targets. Start by standing at 3 yards from the target for this drill. If that seems close, believe me, it will challenge you! After you master this drill at 3 yards, move back to 4 yards, and then to 5 yards. If you can master this at 7 yards you are a true shooter! It's damn hard!

I will post another drill tomorrow and then another on Sunday.
