Don't Be A Dick('s)
So Dick's Sporting Goods is going to solve mass shootings by no longer selling sporting rifles and/or turn their backs on the NRA and the 2nd Amendment. Well, let me correct that verbiage, "assault style rifles." Many years ago I threw a rock at a bird and killed it. This throw was one of one million times I have thrown a rock at a bird. Luck was on my side and I hit it. I did not walk around in the gravel looking for a black rock with an accessory rail or a folding stock. I

My Thoughts on Active Killers
I've held my thoughts in pretty well considering the horrible tragedy in Florida. I have heard ZERO police, politician, school official, teacher, or parent talk about the real problem with active shooters. Those mentioned above spend way more time blaming each other when the real problem is staring them right in the face! Before I go into this in detail let me tell you about my background. I have almost 20 years of law enforcement service to the communities I have lived in. T

A Couple More Good Shooting Drills
Rounding out this weekends drills are the 5 in 1 Drill, and the 1,1,1 Drill. The 5 in 1 drill is done on any type of paper target, paper plate, or cardboard. This is a precision drill and no timer will be used. Start at 3 yards and then you can work at different distances when you have super tight groupings. Focus on one empty spot on the target and fire one shot. This bullet hole now becomes your point of aim for the next four shots. Take your time, use good smooth trigger p

Shooting Drills Continued...
Here is another one of my favorite shooting drills. You will need a shot timer and two extra magazines for this one. You can download a shot timer app on most phones for free if you do not have one. Sometimes I start from the holster, sometimes from the low ready position. I would advise starting from the low ready position to begin with. This is a tough drill! When you can consistently shoot this drill clean and under the 35 second par time, then start working from the holst

What Drills Should I Do?
We get asked this question a lot. Training is about putting some thought into your training day prior to getting to the range. I'm guilty! I have loaded my range bag and headed down to our range with no clue what I was going to do. I load mags, setup targets, and stand there wondering what I should work on. Those are the days I wonder why I went through 1 1/2 Nut Sacs full of ammo and really don't feel like I accomplished anything. Proper training involves a bit of forethough

To Clean or Not to Clean
How often should I clean my firearms? We get asked this question a lot. There is not just a simple answer. Most manufacturers recommend cleaning your firearm after each use. As I've said before, those of us at Def Comp, shoot often. My theory on gun cleaning differs for each platform of firearms. I put approximately 500-600 rounds through my personal pistols before I break them down and give them a bath. That number will not work with my 3-Gun shotgun. The Benelli M4 likes f

Welcome to The Trigger Press Blog
Welcome to our first Def Comp The Trigger Press Blog! We want this to be worth your time to read and our time to write. Hell, I could be out on the range pinging steel and leaving spent brass all over the place. However, we, at Def Comp (DC), want to spread our addiction as teachers, students, and above all, our love for all things shooting! Our plan for this Blog is to have legal updates relating to concealed carry, our favorite range drills, cool photos, product specials, r
